내가 어떤 존재이고 내가 왜 여기 있는지 알지 못한다면, 인생을 살아갈 수 없다.

작가는 우리를 위해서 소중하고 귀중한 사람들이다. 
그는 그의 깊은 영혼에서의 사투를 우리에게 드러냄으로서 우리를 바라본다.

The Christian churches and Christianity have nothing in common save in name: 
they are utterly hostile opposites.
 The churches are arrogance, violence, usurpation, rigidity, death; 
Christianity is humility, penitence, submissiveness, progress, life. 
만일 사람들이 봉사하는 것처럼 그들의 삶을 우러러본다면 삶의 환희는 현실이 될 것이다, 
그리고 삶속에서 분명한 목표를 가지게 될 것이며 그들 개인의 행복도 누릴 수 있을 것이다. 
Joy can be real only if people look upon their life as a service, 
and have a definite object in life outside themselves and their personal happiness. 
대지는 모든 인류의 일반적이며 평등한 소유지이다. 그러므로 대지는 개인의 소유물이 될 수 없다. 
The earth is the general and equal possession of 
all humanity and therefore cannot be the property of individuals. 
너도 알다시피, 만일 네가 일의 보상을 얻기 위하여 체계적으로 
노력과 공부를 한다면, 네 직업의 길은 어렵게만 보일 것이다; 
그러나 네가 일을 할때... 만일 네가 네 직업 자체를 사랑한다면, 너는 일의 보상을 얻을 수 있을 것이다. 
You see, if you take pains and learn in order to get a reward, the work will seem hard; 
but when you work... if you love your work, you will find your reward in that. 
사람이 그의 이성적인 논리로서 그의 삶을 바꾸는 일은 보기 드문 일이다. 
비록 충분히 그가 새로운 계획과 이성에 의해 그에게 드러난 목표들을 겨냥할 지라도, 
그는 그의 삶이 좌절되고 견딜 수 없게 될 때까지 오래된 길을 따라 계속해서 터벅터벅 걸어간다.
 - 그의 삶이 더 이상 견딜 수 없을 때에야 비로소 그는 결국 변화한다. 
It seldom happens that a man changes his life through his habitual reasoning.
 No matter how fully he may sense the new plans and aims revealed to him by reason, 
he continues to plod along in old paths until his life becomes frustrating and unbearable 
- he finally makes the change only when his usual life can no longer be tolerated.
